LOVE the book and a side note about why AMAZON is AMAZING!

First of all, this book is GREAT for the novice investor, and broker who is new to the investment industry such as myself. Due to the downsizing of my previous career, I made a career change to the stock market. Crazy I know, but I love it. Technical Analysis is not hard but can be confusing if you are not sure what all of the "pretty" lines represent. This book breaks it down for someone like me to where I can TRULY understand what a chart is telling me. True, charts CAN be subjective, but the numbers don't lie. Charts combined with some fundamentals can make you a powerful investor if you know what you are doing. The book is not so basic that it would bore a knowledgeable investor; even those who have been trading forever can learn something from this book. Murphy makes to where Technical Analysis makes sense! Now...Why do I think the world of Amazon? I've been watching the price of this book for about a year. I ordered this book due to a manager's recommendations (who allowed me to hold on to her book for a couple of months) and my company trainer's STRONG recommendations just recently. (No they do not work for this company and they are NOT receiving any proceeds for the recommendations.) I received the book and from the outside, the book appeared to be perfect. While flipping through the pages, I saw that pages were damaged in one section. I have been ordering from Amazon for years and not once have I ever had to return an item. This was the first one. I received my package on Tuesday, opened it on Wednesday, contacted Amazon via the web instructions, and dropped the book off at the local UPS location on Thursday. Also per Amazon's instructions, they wanted additional feedback on why I was returning the item. After leaving the feedback, I anticipated that I wouldn't receive the book for another week or so. The return instructions were SO easy it made my head spin. That's not even the best part. I was shocked when I saw I received an email that my replacement book was on its way on Thursday. Get this (here's the BEST part)...I received a PERFECTLY new replacement today, Friday. I am thoroughly impressed. My main purpose for ordering the book when I did was to have it in time for me to utilize when I return to my team on Monday. Due to the advanced training we've received at work, this book is something that will be useful for years to come.

The first book you should read in technical analysis

This is my first book in technical analysis, it was given to me by a friend after he tried a lot to convince me that market movement is not random and as any normal guy I used to make fun of it. After reading this book my curiosity to technical analysis went up big time and I started reading a lot about technical analysis, you can see the rest my books in my reviews.
Now and after reading a lot about technical analysis I see this book as one of the solid foundation of my work, most of the basic and guidelines are available here which I tend to come back to from time to time. John Murphy did an excellent work explaining all the details of the technical analysis world. The main work done here is for chart patterns but he also gives a lot of information about the rest of the techniques. I highly recommend this book for any starter in technical analysis.

Tome of Knowledge!

Pros:
This book contains all different aspects of technical analysis that one should consider.
It explains the different indicators that are being used to do analysis.
It is comprehensive in its coverage.

Cons:
Lack of strategies coverage or ways to use different indicators together.
It may lack in depth details on some indicators.
I expected this because it will not be possible for a book to cover everything in details.
Uncommon indicators are not covered. This is not a problem for me but I think it maybe for some of you.

Overall, I gave it 4 stars.
This is a good reference book.
If you are a beginner, this is a very good book.
If you already know the functions of half of the indicators in your charting program. You will find little value in this book.

Slim Volume Nurtures Big Understandings

Mexican-American Harvard Divinity School Professor David Carrasco has accomplished the near-impossible. This beautifully written, short book (159 pages) explains clearly and systematically key elements of Mesoamerican religious thought. It is a superb introduction to Mesoamerican culture graced by simple illustrations that convey important meanings.

I bought this book hoping to find an explanation for the ritual violence that was an integral part of Mesoamerican culture. I was not disappointed. Carrasco patiently, systematically lays the foundation, stone by stone, for us to understand rituals grounded in a cosmic understanding that "...cosmic order comes from conflict and sacrifice."

But that's not all. After taking us through key elements of Mesoamerican religious thought, Carrasco invites us to consider "Colonialism and Creativity"; that is, the myriad ways in which indigenous beliefs and practices have been incorporated into Catholicism.

This slim volume lays down key concepts and understandings with the power to illuminate important aspects of Mexican culture past and present.

Space and time before Christianity

This book was an assigned text in a class I took on Latin American history. It covers the view of the world, in a spiritual, religious and philosophical sense, as adopted by the Aztecs, Mayans, and several other groups in the area now known as Mexico and Central America. The author explores this world view as it existed prior to Columbus, and in the proceeding centuries as influences such as Christianity seeped in. The author cites many primary and secondary sources, such as ancient Native American texts, journal entries from early Spanish explorers, and oral histories of Native Mexicans. The book is more than a religious studies text; it also explores the history of contact between the Spanish and the natives, and shows how this contact changed the worldviews of the Native Americans.

Excellent - An Animator's Bible.

This is a must-read for anyone interested in going into the animation field, whether in the traditional 2-D or modern 3-D fields! Well worth every dime spent on it. There is so much insight in every page. It was very fascinating, even for someone who is not an artist.

Intimidating - but hard to put own once you stop

This book is required reading for a class I'm taking, and I often have a little trouble getting on board with required reading in classroom situations (even if its about a topic that I'm interested in). I'm always more enthusiastic about starting books that I've discovered on my own, and this one in particular is intimidating because it's 500 pages long with a large format and filled with plenty of text despite the plentiful illustrations.

Well, as I kind of suspected would happen, I have really gotten into it now that I've started. The writers worked at Disney for decades and explain the history and animation techniques of the studio from the inside out with a sensitivity for the art and the individual people making it that I think most students animation can readily relate to. The technical detail it goes into in the early chapters is on par with short books that focus specifically on animation techniques (I recently read "Timing for Animation" - the one with a foreword by Joh Lasseter). All in all it's just exhaustive and so full of detail that you always feel like you have more to learn.

Beautiful, large, instructive, and heavy! :D

A stunning beautifully illustrated book!! The book probably weighs about 15 pounds (ok, probably closer to 11, but who's actually weighing??), but it just makes it that much more of a substantial book! It's also a large-sized hard-bound book.
My daughter needed this book for a class a couple years ago. We borrowed it from the library for the duration of the class (10 weeks), but she's been wanting to own it ever since. She REALLY enjoyed it - read it from cover to cover, and kept returning to certain sections.
It has some wonderful notes from various animators who have worked at Disney. Since that's what my daughter wants to do, she finds it very helpful.
This book is attractive enough to be a coffee table book. We've had friends, who aren't even animators, sit down and peruse the book. It's simply that interesting!

Powerful message.

In this lovely picture book for older children, Papa Panov is an elderly shoemaker, feeling lonely on Christmas Eve. He reads about the birth of Jesus, long ago, and how Mary and Joseph had been turned away at the inn. If they had come here, he thinks to himself, I would have taken them in and cared for them. After drifting off to sleep, Papa Panov has a dream in which Jesus says he will come and visit the old shoemaker the next day. Eagerly, Papa Panov watches the streets on Christmas day, looking for Jesus. Along comes the humble street sweeper, and then a homeless woman and her child, and others who are down on their luck and in need. Papa Panov, though he wants to be watching for Jesus, kindly reaches out to each one who comes his way, offering a bit of food and comfort. When the day ends and Jesus apparently has not come, Papa Panov is disappointed -- until in another dream Jesus says that he had come after all! "I was hungry, and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me water, I was cold and you took me in. All the time you were helping them, you were helping me!"

Disappointing recent edition

We have read Papa Panov's Special Day each Christmas time for 30 years. We have the 1978 edition with illustrations by Nathalie Vilain. When I saw that a more recent edition was available I ordered it hoping that perhaps I could then order additional copies to give to my grown children for their families. What a disappointment -- the older edition had simple, somewhat gritty illustrations of a thin, simple shoemaker; this one has happy, bright watercolors that don't fit the story at all. Papa Panov has become a Santa-clone -- chubby with white hair and beard. Furthermore, there is a gratuitous cat in the illustrations for reasons unknown. Although the same person is credited with the retelling, they have even changed the text: Papa Panov no longer has a grey mustache but a white one; unnecessarily the new text adds 'I'll remember that whenever I read the Christmas story,' which rings false in Papa Panov's voice. All in all, the publisher, Lion Hudson, would have done much, much better re-releasing the old version.

The true meaning of Christmas!

This is a wonderful Christmas story and will touch the hearts of both children and adults. It depicts the real true meaning of Christmas and how we meet Jesus in every person we reach out to in kindness and unselfishness. It is not long and can be read out loud in less than 10 minutes and is perfect for that story before bed.

Better Changes Found

Sher has done a wonderful job of publishing tunes with the correct changes. Original as well as alternate changes are provided in easy to read, full page format. This is a big help for people like myself who have trouble reading small print. The spiral binding of the book allows for easy turning of the pages.

Finally, a legit copy of the jazz musician's BIBLE!

From playing in both my high school's and college's jazz ensembles, it was clear to me that "The Real Book" was the bible of jazz standards. No instructor was without a copy. As a bass player, there have been countless times were I was just tossed a photocopy of a page from the Real Book and the instructions of "Here, do a walk over this chord progression."
A number of things made this book the most demanded of its kind. First of all, it contained hundreds and hundreds of jazz songs in a single volume. Second of all, it mostly followed a one-page-per-song format, showing the most essential parts: the chord and structure changes, the introductions, and the melody. If a song seemed to center around something like a particular repeated bass line, then that line was also shown. And last but certainly not least, the type face and unique "hand written" look made it the by far easiest book to physically read (no eye strain!)
Unfortunately, The Real Book was next to impossible to hunt down. No music stores carried it, or at least admitted to carrying it. It was pretty much an under-the-counter item that you could only get if you knew somebody. I guess these $50 books were always secretly copied and bounded in some local guy's basement, in hopes of skirting all the legal copyright issues.
Finally, Sher Music Co. has taken the original Real Book, got copyright clearance from each and every living composer, and in so doing even got to correct many mistakes based off the the composers' very own lead sheets. They also threw in a number of full-page photographs of jazz greats. The result is the only LEGAL, updated, and widely obtainable version of the original underground book.
One of the reviewers here seemed to make the gross assumption that this is a piano book. It's not. It's a book for everybody in the band. The fact that there are C, Bb and Eb versions of the book should tell you this. I've always been amused by "Piano/Vocal" sheet music books for bands that never even had a piano or keyboard player. For rock bands, they usually attempt a bad transcription of the guitar on the treble clef, and an even worse transcription of the bass on the bass cleff (written an octave down, of course).
Which brings me to the reason why this book was always called "The REAL Book": it's because it didn't take the shortcuts that "Fake Books" take. "Fake Books" are called such because they allow you to "fake" the song, i.e. dumb-down some chord changes, play it in a presumably easier key, and usually even try to adapt the whole song to the single instrument of piano.
It's so great to see a legit copy of this book in print. If you play jazz, this is the one book always worth investing in.

Kindergarten-Grade 2-- This rhyming counting book about the sea is too dense to use as an introduction to numbers, and at times seems to get caught up in its own tongue-twisting technique. There's no game involved--such as finding a number of objects or watching the numerals bend or become something else. The point is to square the number: ``8 `octos' on the ocean floor/ Have scrambled legs, 64.'' The full-color illustrations are realistic , but they don't add much feeling of animation or movement. Nifty nimble numbers

Joy Hulme's Sea Squares is a fun rhyming romp that illustrates the concept of squaring numbers. The rhyme has a definite rythem to it and the illustrations are superb. The borders on each page hint and what the reader will find when the page is turned. The gorgeous use of color in these seascapes delights the eye. I won't buy a children's book unless the illustrations are at least as good as the text. My children love the book and didn't even realize it was a "math" book. I highly recommend adding it to your collection.

Sea Squares is Great!

I like this book because it tells you how to times, 1 x 1 = 1, 10 x 10 = 100, like that. I also like this book because it goes from 1 to 10 and shows you sea life. And sometimes on the right side margin of the page you see part of what animal comes next. When you see a white tale, you know the next page is a whale, and if you see wings, you know the next page is a seagull.
