A Central Text to Any Research on the A-Theory

All I can really say is this: William Lane Craig has produced a fantastic volume which includes deep insight into the topic at hand. There is another volume in the series, namely, "The Tenseless Theory of Time." This one in particular however, was vital to my research and was certainly referenced the most in my work. Craig offers interesting solutions to classical problems for the A-Theory, which includes questions like: "How long is the present?" and "What is the rate at which time flows?" Craig takes a strong presentist stance in particular and accepts a mind expanding view that the present qua the present is a non-metrical entity that is the temporal mode of being itself. I highly recommend this book and hope that other academics out there benefit from it as much as I did. It is worth the money if you consider yourself to be a serious student of the philosophy of time.

Defending A-Theoretical Presentism

Highly recommended for those interested in jumping headfirst into the discussion surrounding the philosophy of time. In this volume, Craig tackles most of the semantical issues in tense: what is tense? can tense be reduced or translated tenselessly without loss of meaning? As an A-theoretical presentist, Craig defends ontological tense. In defense, he rebuts the semantical reduction of tense by Old B-theorist's and the token-reflexive truth conditions of tensed sentences offered by New B-theorist's. More positively, tense is a phenomenologically obvious aspect of the human psyche: personal experience is itself an argument for the objectivity of temporal becoming.

Craig believes his presentist ontology escapes McTaggart's Paradox due to his sole ontological affirmation of a referentially non-degenerative, infinitely divisible and temporally analyzable interval of time. Because neither past nor future exist, the entanglements of McTaggart's Paradox are avoided.

This work of Craig's is well-organized: sectioned neatly and developing in a systematically coherent fashion. It is densely informative reading--certainly no text for the faint-of-mind--, but, with some cognitive application, anyone truly interested can enter this text with a limited grasp on the subject and maintain pace with the author.

Along with her companion volume The Tenseless Theory of Time: A Critical Examination, Craig deserves 5 stars for breadth, ease, and research depth.

A book to give Jump Start on SQL Server Analytics

I referred to this book while doing a prototype in building a Sales dashboard for a company. It gave me a jump start in using Microsoft technologies to come up with a dashboard in a short time. To be honest this is the first book I am referring to on this task. Especially I liked the case studies chapter at the end of the book to be very helpful. The chapters provide covers well on details around SQL Server analytics but I was looking for examples in each chapter to get me though. But this book solved it's purpose for me.
I will recommend this book to other like me who want to start working on dashboards and analytics using SQL Server tools.

Not a pro book

I was hoping that this book would provide some architectural topics such as data structures and strategies for reporting but it came up short. This doesn't mean the book is not worth reading though. It does cover using basics of SSAS and dashboards but is far from a pro book.

the case studies were a good read and I liked the chapter that covered connecting excel to Google analytics as it covered some interesting scenarios but again, it was too elementary.

I would recommend this book only to those who are new to analytics and dashboard but even still I would recommend supplementing with other material or finding another book altogether.

Another Great Zeller Guide to Success!

I've been reading Dirk Zeller's books for many years, focusing on sales and time management. I don't think anything he writes is particularly revolutionary, but his common sense approach makes his works "must reads" for anyone interested in sales.

Pros:
-Lots of useful, immediately relevant information to sales and real estate sales
-Insight into current technology and social media
-Lots of common sense tips and tricks
-Easy to read, well written

Cons:
-The "Dummies" series is good for doses of information, but less useful for a big picture. Although Zeller is an old pro at writing and imparting information, the general "Dummies" format does limit his holistic approach.

Informative and organized

I work a lot with real estate agents and I thought I knew most of the tricks but Dirk Zeller's "Success as a Real Estate Agent" had some items that I didn't realize that a real estate agent did now and when I showed this book to one real estate agent friend, even she was "Whoa, I didn't know about that. I should do that."

The main thing that I got out of "Success as a Real Estate Agent for Dummies" is that one has to be proactive. Just listing a property or taking a prospective buyer to a house isn't what makes a real estate agent. Being proactive and using all the tools available will make the difference between someone who passed the test to get the license and the person who wants to be successful as an agent.

Zeller doesn't let the reader down in that he continues the well-laid out, organized tradition of the "For Dummies" line. He covers everything from online tools, to social media, to presentation, to marketing oneself, to generating more referrals. If I wanted to be a real estate agent in the current market, this book gives me a better idea of what I need to do to be a successful one.

I am contemplating becoming a real estate agent, and this book was a great overview of what to expect, what life of a real estate agent is like, and some of the challenges real estate agents face. It is informative and entertaining, and has convinced me to go ahead and pursue my license. No doubt it will help me hit the ground running and be handy for a long time to come.

AMAZING! I love it

AMAZING! I love it. I have been having trouble waking up in the morning and this book has helped me get that extra boost.
Prior to this book my wife was not a morning person at all, but after reading this we are both getting up early and going to enjoy an early breakfast or an early start on our business/hobbies.
I would highly recommend it for anyone struggling and needing that extra reason to wake up or to help you get that extra boost. I have always known a lot of life is mental and every experience is what you make it to be, but for some reason this book just helped it click for some reason.
If you purchase the book I would highly recommend joining the groups inside and actually doing what it says. Get your significant other to be your partner in this or your best friend as that helps also. There are also people in the groups that ask for partners to help them stay focused and press on past the first few weeks of the challenge in the back of the book, so even if you have no one right now don’t worry, because everyone in the groups are really helpful and I am sure at least one person will be willing to help you out there.
Make it past your first week and wake up early on the weekends too, that’s when it is the most beneficial, to me at least. Very highly recommended!

The best book I've read about creating an empowering morning routine

I love the principles behind having a morning routine. Some have suggested you don't need the mornings to do all this. No you don't, but I believe it's the best way. The reason is when you go through your daily life, you can't control what happens to you. However you can control how you start your day. So no matter what craziness happens during the day, you've made time to focus on yourself and personal growth. Also it gets you ready for the day. If you feel grateful, do your affirmations, get the blood flowing, and focus on the goals you want to achieve for yourself in the morning, the rest of the day you're going to see the world through that filter.

If you wake up and watch the news, check what your friends are complaining about on Facebook, watch some TV, grab a quick sugar filled breakfast and then head out the door to start your day, then you've set yourself up for a lazy and unproductive. Do that for 365 days and see what happens.

I know because my morning routine did nothing for me. I worked at a restaurant so I didn't work till nights. I'd sleep in, watch tv, check my email, check social media, eat breakfast while doing this, and then do this until lunch time. After lunch, I'd do more of the same until it was time for work.

Hal's book speaks to me like an old friend teaching me the best way to maximize my mornings. I like that he doesn't come off like a guru. He sounds like a regular guy who's overcome a lot in his life and discovered the one thing that makes him able to achieve so much in life.

There's no guessing what you need to do. He lays out a plan for you that has not only worked for him, but his coaching clients.

If you saw my Kindle book, it's covered in highlights and notes. So much great inspiration and lessons in it to review.

I believe the people who think a morning routine is stupid aren't willing to try it. Don't dismiss it unless you've actually tried it. The worst possible scenario is you life is the same as it is. It definitely won't get any worse from following the routine that Hal outlines in the book.

The best possible scenario is that it can change your life.

Isn't that worth the risk?

Just remember if you want to achieve something you've never achieved before, then you have to do what you have never done before.

Hal Elrod is an inspiring guy.

At 20 years old he was hit head on by a drunk driver. At 70 mph. (Ouch.) He was found dead. (Yikes.) Immeasurable work of knowledge passed

Must have as part of his I Am collection,please see my other review on his first volume. Both of these on "The Power of I Am" are designed to launch you into a deeper understanding of this essence that is you. What David Allen has done is like no other author that I have read,he has taken so many other authors works and weaved a web of truth that leaves you knowing this is the only path of life. He starts you out on this slow march and then you realize you have been going up the ladder or up the scale to a better and greater understanding of this power within you. Many of the authors that he quotes are some I have never heard of and I have read over 7000 books in metaphysics. Solid read on the issue of women in ministry

Excellent exegesis and historical overview of the question of ladies in the pulpit. Dr. Ryrie is very accommodating but also upholds Biblical distinctives. I did however disagree with him on the issue of divorce. Dr. Ryrie does not believe its is acceptable under any circumstances. I believe the Bible gives two (and only two) permissible reasons for divorce.

Recommended for all women

My book shelf is quickly filling with books from the complementarian point of view of women’s roles, and Ryrie’s book is a great addition. He showed the great worth and dignity that Christianity has given women. The first edition was written in 1979, and this second edition was published in 2011. Some parts of the book took a bit of slow reading without distraction, but it was well worth the time!

Ryrie’s book begins with descriptions of the status of women in Judaism and in Greek and Roman culture and outlines how that differs from Christ’s teaching and relationship with women as well as the early church’s view of women’s roles. Jesus’ ministry was truly a turning point in the life of women. “It was the Lord Himself, who turned the reproach of the unmarried or widowed Jewish woman into reputable service for the Master.” I appreciated in this section Dr. Ryrie’s explanation of the issues of divorce, silence in the church, head coverings, subordination, prophetesses and deaconesses, widows, and virgins. His interpretations of the relevant Scriptures are true to the languages and the common sense of the texts.

The second half of the book traced all of the mentions of women in all of the church writings from the time of the apostles through the 3rd century. This was different that most other books of this genre I’ve read, and I loved it! The writings of Polycarp, Ignatius, Clement, Tertullian, Origen and others are analysed for clues about how the early church viewed women’s roles and how they applied the New Testament to the faithful Christian life. Ryrie’s short overview of each writer’s theology and background was helpful because unlike Scripture, the writings of the early church are jaded by their own human infallibility and philosophies and false doctrines. Having that framework for each writer was helpful to me in that way. The writings reveal how the early church practiced the doctrines of the New Testament and interestingly an office of deaconess is conspicuously absent until halfway through the 3rd century. Rather, “Beyond any question the widow was the outstanding figure throughout the entire first three centuries of the church.” We find the term deaconess only in connection with Phoebe (Rom. 16:1-2) in the New Testament, and Ryrie shows clearly that even in the first centuries of the church, the office of “deaconess” is more of an outgrowth of a well-organized and respected group of widows whose duties were not liturgical but consistent with helping at baptisms of women and visiting the sick and prayer. They did not preach, teach, nor perform any of the ordinances, not even when it involved only women. Notably in these early church writings, widows were not ordained as were bishops/pastors. Throughout these centuries the role of women in the home was the main emphasis of the church. The value of these godly women and their active service in the church was undeniably treasured, but their service was never authoritarian or in conflict with male leadership. Ryrie concludes, “Women workers, yes; women deacons, no.”

Too often the feminist and egalitarian camps try to rewrite church history and read into words like deaconess much more than was intended or described. We need more voices like Ryrie’s speaking in support of the complementarian view of women’s roles, that subordination does not equal inferiority, that ordering of authority and roles is very much defined and expected in Scripture, and that a woman’s godly service and contribution to the church does not require a formal position of authority.

Scholary Study

This was originally Dr. Charles C. Ryrie's doctoral thesis from a university in Scotland. This is a revised reprint from the original edition published in the early 60s. It is uncomfortably biblical, especially in an era of feminism, yet Dr. Charles Ryrie does offer women ministry roles, but not in an authoritative role. I find that Dr. Ryrie always seeks to be biblical and looks at all the scriptural data. Ryrie does not believe a women should be a pastor or a preacher over men. This book is very biblical and scholarly. Highly recommended.
